Do I have faith?

Am countering every move I have ever made.

Am worried about where they have brought me.

And am asking myself, “do I have faith?”

I count the “maybes” and they are just too much.

I see that the stakes are too high and my heart is afraid to believe.

Do I still have faith?

Duty versus Devotion

It can be hard to find the balance but this post, written by Red Letters, helps to put things in the right perspective!

Have you ever done something out of duty? Did you notice how you were motivated in the beginning but after a while you were left feeling hollow and maybe even filled with some resentment?

I can imagine Martha from the bible was left feeling like this too. Martha’s duty was to serve, clean & cook & was merely fulfilling the role of what was expected of her.

Perhaps she even asked herself the question, “If I don’t do this, who else will?”

Maybe if Martha felt she had an alternative she would have sat at the feet of Jesus, just like her sister did or maybe it was the pressure to conform that prevented her.

Either way, I wonder how many things we do in our own lives, out of duty or simply because it is expected of us?

A Prayer

O God, my prayer is to you. At an acceptable time, according to the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your faithfulness.

My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of the deeds of your salvation all the day, for their number is past my knowledge. With the mighty deeds of the Lord God I will come, I will remind them of your righteousness and yours alone. Your righteousness oh God reaches unto the heavens, who is like unto you. My lips will shout for joy when I sing praises to you, my soul, which you have redeemed. And my tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long.
