Keeping Faith Alive

keeping faith alive-002Faith without love is as good as having no faith!

Hebrews 11:6 says “for without faith it is impossible to please God” but faith that is lacking in love is not pleasing God either because it is as good as dead or not having faith in the first place.

1 Corinthians 13:2, 13 says “..and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing. And now abide in faith, hope, love, these three but the greatest of these is love”.

According to the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Galatians, the only thing that avails much in the Christendom is faith that works by love and nothing else. Galatians 5:6, “For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love”.

Two (2) good illustrations of faith working by love is given by the Apostle James in James 2:15-17.

“If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?  Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.”

He writes also of Abraham, our father of faith saying “But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?”

But how did this exercise of Abraham’s faith work exactly? Genesis 22:12; “And he said, lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou anything unto him:  for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me”.

Abraham loved God such that there was nothing he could withhold from Him, not even his precious Isaac which he had waited twenty-five (25) years for to receive him from God.

1 John 4:20; “If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also”.

This is our confidence and assurance that when we love one another, whatsoever we ask of Him we shall receive – 1 John 3:20-22, John 15:16-17. Also, when we love Him we keep His commandments – John 15:10, 1 John 3.

John 13:35, “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another”. The best way to communicate our faith to all men is by love.

Let’s flaunt our faith and keep it faith alive by abiding in love. So I pray even as Paul prayed in 1 Thess. 3:12 that the Lord make us to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men in Jesus name. Amen.

God bless you and do have a great week!

Love,

Bassey.
